Warta Ekonomi, Jakarta -

PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk ( WSKT ) will work on a toll road construction project in South Sudan with a value of Rp. 21 trillion to Rp. 25 trillion.

Waskita's Director of Operations III Karya Gunadi explained that the payment scheme for the toll road project carried out by Waskita in a country that had only been independent for 10 years was different from the others. In this project, the government of South Sudan will pay for the construction using crude oil sold to Pertamina.

"The road we are building is financed by the sale of crude oil paid for by the government of South Sudan and then placed in an escrow account and then paid to Waskita," he said, in Jakarta, Wednesday (25/5/2022).

Gunadi revealed that the toll road that Waskita built in South Sudan has a length of 1,000 kilometers with a construction period of five years.

"So the shape is an intersection, each of which is 250 kilometers long," he said.

Meanwhile, he said that the construction project would be implemented by the end of this year. However, at this time his party is still conducting studies related to the business risks that will arise in the country which is still classified as volatile.

"We are still studying the level of risk so that it can run at a stable risk. At the end of this month, a representative from South Sudan will come to Indonesia to sign the contract and at the beginning of the second semester, it will be done," Gunadi said.

On this occasion, Gunadi also said that the company would return to work on the project, which this time is a road construction project in Timor Leste. "This year we will also work on a road tender worth Rp500 billion in Timor Leste," he explained.
