To become a leader in the region is never easy. Indonesia’s steady rise as a middle power with global influence has not always pleased everyone. Those who profit from chaos, division, and dependency may feel uneasy, even disappointed, with our progress. But history shows that nations that remain resilient in turbulent times are the ones that earn respect, and Indonesia today stands among them.
A Nation That Defies Turbulence
Despite the storms shaking the global economy, Indonesia has held firm. In 2023, while many countries experienced stagnation, our economy still grew by 5%, one of the highest growth rates in the G20. Today, Indonesia’s GDP stands at US$1.5 trillion, making us the largest economy in Southeast Asia. By 2030, we are projected to join the world’s top 10 economies, and by 2045—the centennial of our independence, Indonesia has the potential to rank among the top five.
Our digital economy is another engine of growth. Valued at over US$80 billion today, it is set to double by 2030, cementing Indonesia as the digital hub of Southeast Asia. And with more than 50% of our population under the age of 35, we hold a demographic advantage that can fuel innovation, entrepreneurship, and long-term competitiveness.
More Than Just Numbers
But Indonesia’s significance cannot be measured only in economic terms. Our geographic position, connecting the Indian and Pacific Oceans, makes us indispensable to global trade and security. Our cultural identity, with the world’s largest Muslim population, allows us to serve as a bridge between the Islamic world and the global community. And our commitment to balance and dialogue gives us credibility as a trusted voice in international forums.
These strengths are not abstract—they are the very foundation of Indonesia’s role as a leading middle power, respected for its ability to stabilize, mediate, and offer constructive alternatives in a fractured world.

Standing Together for Indonesia’s Future
Yet this future is not guaranteed. To truly rise, we Indonesians must stand together. Growth and influence require unity of purpose. We must invest in our people, empower our MSMEs, embrace green transformation, and ensure that no community is left behind.
If we succeed, Indonesia will not only be stronger at home, it will be a nation capable of shaping the direction of the world. Our rise is not about dominance, but about offering stability, cooperation, and hope in uncertain times.
Those who benefit from chaos may be disappointed, but for Indonesia, the choice is clear: stand united, build together, and claim our place as a respected middle power that helps shape a better world.
